Turistas caminan sobre volcán en Nueva Zelanda minutos antes de erupción mortal (VIDEO)

Una cámara web instalada en el volcán White Island de Nueva Zelanda muestra que un grupo de turistas estaba dentro del cráter, momentos antes de que estallara y cubriera el área en una enorme nube de cenizas.

A borde de cráter, la cámara, operada por la agencia de riesgos geológicos de Nueva Zelanda, GeoNet, muestra a grupos de personas que caminan cerca de la zona de peligro, donde el humo blanco se agita constantemente a un nivel bajo, en la hora previa a la erupción.

No está claro si la docena de personas fueron alertadas de huir o continuaron una gira, sin darse cuenta del peligro inminente.

Al menos cinco personas murieron y otras tantas resultaron heridas, y otras se reportaron como desaparecidas después de la erupción.

Se enviaron helicópteros de rescate a la isla, que está deshabitada pero que los turistas visitan con frecuencia en excursiones de un día.
